Iconoclastic designer

The career path of Ora-Ito is unusual and this rarity is reflected in this exclusive Laguiole knife collection

After working in a design school, he got fired and Ito Morabito decided to start painting. At 19 years old, the designer drew virtual objects of big brands, such as Nike trainers, Vuitton back packs and Apple cases, and published these on his website. His boldness worked: the orders came in and the brands appreciated his cheeky gesture.

In 2002 Ora-Ito got his first commission by Heineken. The mission: redesigning the glass bottle to attract women to beer. He created an aluminum bottle with original packaging and won an Oscar for Best Design. Two years later he created the lamp ‘One Line’ and won the Red Hot Design award. Today, his reputation is strong and his name is known the world over.

Many trendy brands such as Adidas, L’Oréal, Toyota, Levi’s, Nike, Danone and Thierry Mugler trust his designs and are attracted by his sober, futuristic and simple creations. Ora-Ito speaks of ‘simplexité’ to describe his eclectic style. He designed the French Nike showroom in 2003 and the 2007 European Toyota flagship store on the Champs-Elysées. He made furniture collections for the prestigious brands Zanotta or Zéritalia and created the ‘Furtivo’ knife for FORGE DE LAGUIOLE.
